Now in its 22nd year, the North American International Auto Show in Detroit is among the most prestigious auto shows in the world and one of the largest media events in the country. Last month, Creative Technology deployed fourteen T2 units to drive five different booth properties, the largest of which was the Ford display.

Creative have a lot of experience with Turbo, the T2's SD predecessor, and were keen to put the new iDDR through its paces, particularly as they wanted to incorporate HD video content this year. They had a custom interface to control the T2s, which were used in conjunction with Barco LED walls in a variety of innovative ways.

One of the elements in the Ford booth was a massive oval media wall made up of four HD screen “sets” consisting of a primary LED screen supplemented by multiple LED “fingers” for a very dramatic visual impact. This element was driven by a pair of T2 decks displaying dynamic, synchronized content across all displays.

We needed a device that would output HD-SDI and the customer wanted something that could accept digital files" said Darren Alexander, Technical Director for Creative Technology Group. "In previous years we used tape-based ingest, and it was costly for our clients having to go to an edit house to produce tapes. With the T2 we were able to take their media, ingest it very quickly and put it into playlists as needed. The T2s performed flawlessly over the run of show, and were only turned off when the show was over!"

EDIUS Makes The News
Staff news editor at an NBC affiliate station in the central New England area, Kathryn O’Leary likes to work fast. When there’s a breaking story, she doesn’t have time for  technology that makes her wait. That’s why she’s a big fan of the Grass Valley™ EDIUS® nonlinear editing system.

“I’ve used most of the other news editing systems in the past and didn’t like the fact that I’d have to wait for my effects to be rendered" said Kathryn. "I’ve pushed the EDIUS system as far as I could, sometimes using 12 layers of video, and it has never failed to deliver the results we needed to get the job done. Breaking news situations is what the news business is all about and EDIUS more than holds up its end.”

O’Leary received an Emmy® nomination in the category of “News Editing 24-hour Limit” for several stories she edited together as a montage.

MEDIAEDGE On Demand At Greek Film Festival
The 5th Agora took place during November 2009, as part of the 50th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF). The Agora is a networking event aimed at film industry professionals, running in parallel with the film festival.

"The festival’s organizers wanted to replace their existing and difficult to manage DVD library", said Kostas Koutsantonis, Commercial Manager at Athens-based MEDIAEDGE systems integrator Technotrade. "So we designed a customized MEDIAEDGE user interface and application using HTML and .NET software to create a bespoke video-on-demand system".

A MEDIAEDGE server and local area network were installed in the Agora facility, capable of supporting simultaneous video and audio streaming to 26 MEDIAEDGE STB set-top boxes. Festival organizers could extract a wealth of reports detailing access statistics, movie preferences, reviews and comments.

Indigo for 'Real World' Education
The TV/Film Production Department at DeSales University in Allentown, Pennsylvania, US, prides itself on ensuring its students are ready for life outside of school and professional employment.

The school’s production facilities were recently upgraded to include an end-to-end HD workflow that significantly increased the capabilities of the students’ productions. As part if this refurbushment the facility migrated their Grass Valley 100 video production switcher to the new Indigo A/V Mixer.

“We wanted to stick with a trusted manufacturer that we knew would stand up to the
50 students that would use the switcher every semester. Not only did it have to be easy to use and withstand the harsh treatment it receives on a daily basis, but it had to produce high-quality results so that the students and faculty could feel happy with their work. The Indigo delivers on both counts"
said Chuck Gloman, Director of TV/Film and Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at DeSales.
